The Pope & Young Club Seeks Executive Director

The Pope & Young Club (P&Y) is looking for an experienced, intelligent, talented and enthusiastic Executive Director to lead the operations of the club in pursuit of its mission.  The Executive Director is the key management leader of the Pope and Young Club and is responsible for overseeing the administration, finances and strategic plan of the Club. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing and membership recruitment and retention.  The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Scope & Responsibilities:

1) Board Governance: Works with Board in order to fulfill the club mission.

  • Responsible for leading the Club in a manner that supports and guides the Club’s mission as defined by the Board.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

2) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the Club.

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Club, to include submission to the Board of an annual budget and monthly financial statements.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization and maintenance of the Club in a positive financial position.
  • Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support the Club’s mission.

3) Club Mission and Strategy: Works with Board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through fundraising, strategic planning, and outreach initiatives.

  • Responsible to maintain the integrity of the Club’s scoring system.
  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that Club can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
  • Responsible for the enhancement of Club’s image by being active and visible in the bowhunting community (socially and politically).
  • Responsibility as the Club’s primary spokesperson to its members and industry.

4) Organization Operations. Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the Club are appropriate.

  • Responsible for effective administration of Club operations.
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.
  • Responsible for signing agreements and documents made and entered into and on behalf of the Club.
  • Responsible to establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the Club.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a high-level management position, preferably in the nonprofit sector
  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in business, organizational management or a related field
  • Ability to work independently, a desire to succeed, integrity and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work with other employees to keep operations running smoothly
  • Hands-on budget management skills including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting
  • Experience working directly with a Board of Directors preferred
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and event planning
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong public speaking ability
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Writing and editorial experience preferred


Commensurate with qualifications and experience. P&Y is prepared to offer an attractive

compensation package, including competitive salary, health insurance allowance, retirement and vacation benefits. A reasonable portion of relocation expenses will also be covered, if necessary.

Position Location:

Applicants willing to relocate to the Rochester/Chatfield, Minnesota area will be given preference. Applicants not willing to relocate will be expected to submit a plan for working remotely.
